The Palette of Life is the first collection of TDB Capsule – our newly-launched e-commerce store where we introduce capsule collections of collectible pieces – each meaningfully designed to transport individuals to a universe filled with the colours of different history and culture.
The first of our capsule collection, The Palette of Life features an array of the treasured traditional Korean wrapping cloths, known as Bojagi (보자기). A subtle harmony of cultural heritage and modern silhouettes, each piece is designed to convey the quintessence of the time-honoured tradition.
저희 캡슐 컬렉션의 첫 번째인 팔레트는 소중한 한국 전통 보자기를 다양한 디자인으로 선보입니다. 문화 유산과 현대적인 실루엣이 조화롭게 어우러져 각 디자인에 유서 깊은 전통의 정수를 담았습니다.
Bojagi has held significant cultural and historical value in Korea since the Three Kingdoms period (57 BCE to 668 CE). It has been beloved by all, including the royals, and continues to be treasured by every family today. The name Bojagi originated from the word “bok (복)”, which means luck in the Korean language.
Thus, when one uses the Bojagi to encase an item, it can be understood as the wrapping of blessings and is believed to protect good luck.
보자기는 삼국시대(기원전 57년~서기 668년)부터 한국에서 중요한 문화적 그리고 역사적 가치를 가지고 있습니다. 왕족을 비롯한 모든 사람의 사랑을 받으며 오늘날까지도 모든 가족이 소중히 여기고 있습니다. 보자기라는 이름은 우리말로 행운을 의미하는 ‘복(福)’이라는 단어에서 유래되었습니다. 그러므로 물건을 보자기로 싸는 것은 복을 싸는 것이며 행운이 달아나지 않도록 보호한다고 믿어지고 있습니다.
The Palette of Life weaves together the splendours of Obangsaek (오방색) – the traditional Korean colour spectrum that represent cardinal directions and symbolise the five elements of life – wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The colours and elements, believed to be necessary for a healthy, prosperous and long life, are delicately composed into each piece of the collection. As a finishing touch, the Bojagi is presented in an octagonal-shaped keepsake box – a cultural symbol embodying the nation’s values, also known as the eight trigrams (팔괘).
팔레트는 오방색의 화려함을 조합하여 엮어 놓았습니다. 오방색은 방위와 자연의 다섯 가지 원소인 나무, 불, 흙, 쇠, 물을 상징하는 한국의 전통적인 색상 팔레트입니다. 건강하고 풍요로우며 장수하는 삶을 위해 필요하다고 믿는 색상과 요소를 컬렉션의 각 디자인에 포함하여 조화롭게 구성하였습니다. 최종적으로 보자기는 팔각형 유품 상자에 담겨 제공되며 이는 민족의 가치관을 구현하는 문화적 상징인 팔괘를 의미합니다.
